 · You can go either way. 16" spacing is the most that a 5/4 will span, whereas a 2X6 can span 24" max. (I assume that you are talking wood, not a composite!) Unless there is a HUGE difference in the price, I would go with the 2X6. Your narrower joist spacing is just going to make the deck feel that much more solid. Upvote. lefty.
